Lagos – A 25-year-old tricycle rider, Oluwole Odebo, who allegedly stole his passenger ‘s mobile phones valued at N200,000, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Odebo, who lives at 40, Market St., Isale Oja, Agege, a suburb of Lagos, is standing trial for alleged theft and causing a breach of the peace.

The prosecutor, Insp. Akeem Raji told the court that the accused committed the offences on Feb. 14 at Abule Elba near Lagos.

Raji said that the complainant, Mr Musa Bilyaminu boarded a tricycle from Ikeja to Abule Egba and was with some mobile phones he had just bought.

“The complainant bought N200,000 worth of different mobile phones from Ikeja and forgot the bag containing the goods in the tricycle when he got to Abule Egba.

“Some few minutes after he alighted, Odebo remembered that he was carrying a bag containing the goods, ” the prosecutor said.

Raji said that the complainant immediately retraced his steps and started to search for the tricycle he alighted from but to no avail.

“The complainant reported the case to the tricycle park and described how the accused looked like.

“All efforts made by the complainant to locate the accused proved abortive until he was later sighted at Abule Egba garage,” the prosecutor said.

Raji said that the accused was handed over to the police by the chairman of the park.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 168 and 280 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chief Magistrate T. O. Shomade granted the accused to a bail of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Shomade adjourned the case until April 27 for mention. (NAN)
