A former member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Opeyemi Bamidele, has urged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to take urgent steps to unite all aspirants towards the next general elections before the primaries to avert confrontation and enmity.
He said the party and its members would be making a big mistake to believe that the party could win with just any candidate because of the backing of the Federal Government, which is controlled by the ruling party.
Speaking with journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Friday, Bamidele pointed out that the party needed a strong candidate to complement whatever institutional support that would come from leaders at the national level.
He also called for expeditious action on the issue of delegates’ list that would be used for the conduct of the May 6 primaries, saying it would be appropriate for the list to be made public in earnest to boost members’ confidence in the national leadership.
He said, “For us to win this election, our party needs to urgently thrash two burning issues. One, some aspirants seem to be approaching the election with dangerous mindsets that can brew bad blood. This has created palpable divisions and tension. So, our leaders must caution all the aspirants in this regard.”
