In a bid to curb cases of rape in the societies, Adamawa State Government in conjunction with the British Council and the European Union (EU) weekend commissioned a Sexual Assault Referral Centre, Tagged “Adamawa Hope Centre.” The centre located at the premises of the State Specialist Hospital was commissioned by the wife of the State Governor, Hajiya Mariam Jibrilla, who  decried the ever increasing incidents of rape in the society especially among teenagers.

The Governor’s wife told parents and guardians to be more proactive in handling their wards especially the  female ones maintaining that theyhave become more  vulnerable and exposed to sexual assault. “We must put all hands on deck  to check the growing cases of rape in the  society today. Our little girls are being defiled in large numbers on daily basis and we must wake up to this challenge,” she advised.

Speaking at the occasion, Professor Mohammed Tabiu, the National Programme Manager of  Managing Conflicts in Nigeria (MCN) said Adamawa Hope Centre was expected to assist victims of sexual assault  by  providing free  and  immediate emergency medical treatment, trauma- counseling experts as well as legal advice.
