A suspected major distributor of cannabis sativa (Indian hemp) in Onitsha, Solomon Michael, has been arrested.

The drug peddler said to be a native of Abia State was arrested by men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Anambra State Command.

One other Okechukwu Udenkwo was arrested for being in possession of a substance suspected to be cocaine.

The NDLEA said the two were arrested during a raid in Onitsha and Nando respectively.

Addressing newsmen in Awka after the raid on Tuesday, the State Commander of the NDLEA, Mr. Sule Momodu, said, “Solomon is a major distributor of cannabis sativa in Onitsha, while Udenkwo is involved in the business of distributing cocaine in Nando.

“The suspects have been terrorising their areas over time; their arrests have restored sanity and peace in those areas. They will soon be charged to court,” Momodu said.

While soliciting the cooperation of community leaders to enable his agency to win the war against illicit drugs in the state, Momodu assured informants that their identities would be protected.

He called for collective efforts in sustaining the excellent security recorded in the state and commended Governor Willie Obiano for his efforts in securing the state.
