Is the church is the best place for Christians to discuss sex?

A certain gospel singer disagrees with the common notion that sex should be a no-go area for the church.

As a Christian, what comes to mind when you think of the best place to discuss sex?

Chances are that the church is not one of the first five places that you think of. Popular Gospel singer, Jonathan McReynolds says this has to change.

He broached the need for a different mentality in the first session of his LifeRoomTalk platform.

According to the 28-year-old gospel singer, the church should be the right place to have taboo conversations like sex so that it can be discussed from a Christian perspective.

In his words, “I think one of the things the church will mess up on if we don't fix it is that some topics don’t seem right for church. But you need it in this context.

“I can’t only talk about sex out there because out there sex is responded to differently. In here, I get an opportunity to frame it in the Christian faith. And so we really need to have more of these conversations.”

McReynolds’ new platform aims to explore similar taboo topics that can't be properly addressed through his music.

He said: “In my songs, I can only say it so boldly. I do my best but at the end of the day we need to talk because of this — sorry to break it to you — this is the church.”

Is the church is the best place for Christians to discuss this subject?

Despite the gospel singer’s stance, is the church really the right place to have the sex conversations?

Yes, it is. The church is the perfect environment and your brethren are the perfect people because you all worship and hopefully have an intimate relationship with the creator of sex.

Like McReynolds rightfully said, the church offers the right, Godly perspective. Here, you learn about sex, not as the world does but as God, the maker, intended for us to discover it.

Here, we acknowledge that sex is not bad or disgusting but a beautiful gift from our amazing father.

Like any good father, who would open a trust fund that his children can only have access to a certain age, God did the same thing with sex.

Recognising the beauty, purpose, and acknowledging that it can be misused, He kept it for marriage and this union alone.

Having this knowledge makes Christians the best people to discuss sex with and the church the best place to have this conversation.
