LAGOS—Three suspected cultists, who allegedly shot an official of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, LNSC, Mosuru Bolaji, dead, in a bar at Mallam Isah close, Aguda, Surulere area of Lagos, last Wednesday, have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command.

This is just as the command also swooped on suspected cultists during  initiation process at Elemoro , Ajah area of Lagos, with 57 of them arrested. One of them , a 15-year-old Junior Secondary School 1 student, told Vanguard that he was lured with eight bottles of beer to the initiation ground.

The suspected cultists arrested in connection with the LNSC official, Muyideen Bello (17) Wasiu Adio alias trouble ( 35) and Nurudeen Odofin (39) , according to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, Imohimi Edgal, confessed during interrogation to have taken part in the crime.

He stated that one axe and a knife stained with blood , were recovered from the suspects, adding that the items had been sent to the Forensic Unit for analysis.

Edgal further stated that one of the suspects , Adio alias Trouble, further confessed to be a senior member of Eiye confraternity and also revealed that he and members of his group also killed one Timothy last October.

Edgal explained further that :” Investigation into the case revealed that the deceased was an active member of the newly inaugurated neighbourhood Safety Corps. His enlistment into the corps sent jitters down the spine of most cultist members as most of them were well known to the deceased , hence the suspects along with their accomplices currently at large attacked and killed the deceased at Umunede bar at Mallam Isah close , Aguda Surulere where he had gone to watch soccer at the close of work.”

However when approached the suspects denied culpability.

…during initiation

In another development, the Command also swooped on some members of the Aiye confraternity during  initiation of new members , in a forest at Abule Egbanu , in Elemoro area of Ajah, Lagos.

Two locally made cut-to-size guns , three live cartridges and 22 expended cartridges were recovered from the suspected cultists. Also recovered at the initiation scene were two Suzuki mini buses with number plates : LND 893 XV and EPE 189 XV respectively.

Another Volkswagen bus with number plates: EPE 580 XP, a Mitsubushi space wagon with number plates: SMK 455 AL , two Toyota Camry cars with  numbers plates: BD9 760 DH and LSD 506 EC, were also recovered.

Some of the suspected cultists according to the command boss, Imohimi Edgal were half out of their minds at the time they were arrested, due to drug overdose.

I was lured with 8  bottles of beer

However, one of the newly initiated cultists, Mujeeb Idris, a Junior Secondary School 1 student, claimed that he was lured with eight bottles of beer to the initiation ground by a man he referred to as Egbon, in Orile.

Idris (15), who stated that he also operates a tricycle in Orile, where he lives with his parents, said: “Egbon invited me to Savage bar at Orile where he bought a cartoon of Goldberg for me and some other youths.

“By the time I finished eight bottles, I became tipsy and slept off. The next time I opened my eyes, I found myself in a beach with some boys . I was blindfolded and had my right thumb pieced with broken bottle. Thereafter, I was asked to lick the blood.

“They also gave me a liquid concoction to drink. Later, somebody announced ’welcome to Aiye cult. You have now blended’.”
