A man has died after an articulated truck lost control and crushed 14 vehicles along the Abuja/Keffi highway on Monday night.

The accident grounded traffic, leaving commuters stranded for hours as the Federal Road Safety Corps personnel and other security operatives battled to clear the road.

Our correspondent learnt that the crash, which occurred about 100 metres after the Karu Bridge around 9.20pm, affected 12 cars, one bus and two trucks.

The FRSC Corps Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, attributed the auto crash to overloading and brakes failure, adding that three cars left the scene with minor dents.

He explained that six persons – four males and two females – were injured and taken to Nyanya General Hospital, but a male victim died at Wuse General Hospital where he was taken alongside a female victim.

According to the FRSC’s preliminary report on the accident, the brand of vehicles damaged during the accident included Toyota Camry, Mazda, Honda Acura SUV, Volkswagen Golf, Honda Accord, a Toyota Hiace bus, belonging to Peace Mass Transit, and a Leyland Daf truck.

Besides FRSC operatives, Kazeem said the police and men of the Nigerian Army also participated in the rescue efforts.
