Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, is angry.

Taking to his verified Twitter handle on Saturday afternoon, el-Rufai decried the activities of those who use the anonymity of the internet to defame others.

It was in response to a tweet by one Mr. Steven Kefas, who had alleged via a tweet that a fire outbreak at the Kaduna office of the State Independent Electoral Commission was an evidence of Governor el-Rufai’s desperation.

But el-Rufai maintained innocence, rebuking Mr. Kefas for what he described as ‘defamation.”

The governor tweeted, “Many think the apparent anonymity of social media gives them latitude to be savages – to comment irresponsibly, engage in hate speech, be defamatory of others’ reputations and sometimes even treasonable. There are legal consequences and you are not as anonymous as you think.

“Dear Mr Kefas: This irresponsible and defamatory statement will require a response. So I hope when you receive from court summons, you will be able to prove your defamation? We are tracing your address for service of court processes. Help the processes by providing it early.”

But the governor’s followers have divided opinion about his response. See the responses:
