Nigeria  ended their group matches at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia with a 97-55 defeat to the  hosts in their third match of the group.

D’Tigers face  Scotland in the semi-final qualifier on Tuesday.

The basketball event of the Commonwealth Games featured teams, who were grouped into two according to their FIBA rankings. Each group has four teams.

The top two teams in Group A – Australia and New Zealand – progressed to the semi-finals while the top two teams in Group B – Scotland and England – play in the qualifiers against the last two teams in Group A – Canada and Nigeria – for the other two semi-final places.

D’Tigers, who began their campaign at the Games with a humiliating 110-65 loss to New Zealand in their first match, lost 82-67 to Canada in their second match on Saturday.

Nigeria lost the first quarter 23-17 against Australia  before ending the half time with another 25-10 loss. Australia continued the rout in the third quarter with a 28-14 score and they rounded it off in the last quarter 21-14.

Captain Ike Diogu accounted for 19 points, six rebounds and two assists while Godsgift Achiuwa followed him with eight points and eight rebounds.
