Friday OLOKOR

The Arewa Christians and Indigenous Pastors Association has expressed concern over the activities of Fulani herdsmen in the country, saying they have become more vicious since the emergence of Muhammadu Buhari as president.

The religious leaders, while calling on the next administration to form a special border patrol force, made up of trained patriotic Nigerians, said the Fulani herdsmen should either “return to the desert or stop their carnage.”

The association also demanded the immediate resignation or dismissal of all service chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris; and the Minster of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazzau (retd.).

The President of ACIPA, Rev. Luke Shehu, who said this in an Easter press conference on Friday in Jos, Plateau State, demanded that a Christian president should be elected in 2019.

Shehu said the call for self-defence by a former Minister of Defence, Lt.-Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd.), had “singled him out as the amiable hero of the persecuted Christians, minorities and all Nigerians, and a voice of countless Muslims.”

He added, “We are not unaware of the imminent threat and risk such opposition to this government and its cabals may attract to Gen. Danjuma and those of us who share his position as we have since earlier posited. Particularly in the failure to protect lives of Christians and Nigerians in general, we have lost confidence and faith in this administration.”

Shehu stated that a female pupil of Government Science Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State, Leah Sharibu, who is still in captivity after Boko Haram abducted 110 schoolgirls and released 106, remained a testimony of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

“Nigerians cannot be fooled in a circus with the remaining Chibok girls. We also categorically demand the immediate release of Leah Sharibu, whose boldness not to renounce Christianity affirms the faith of Christians the world over and portrays our steadfastness and freedom of choice of religion, rather than compulsion,” Shehu stated.
